REAL(s) are a London-based anarcho space punk band, inspired by Mark Fisher’s book ‘Capitalist Realism’. Forming the collective D.S.L.B (Deep Song Love Bomb) to use all forms of art & creativity, combined with a collection of philosophies ranging from Nietzsche, Lorca’s Duende & Dadaist surrealism. REAL(s) seek to highlight the inconsistencies and cracks in the facade of late stage capitalism, in the hope and ongoing struggle for humanity to break the chains of our past and step into a future that has long been unclaimed.
Journey through their visual manifesto below – a world where dadaist methods of poetry, phrase and collage meet surrealist imagery and punk rock. REAL(s) welcomes you to the reality of 21st century Britain.
The roots of DADA are steeped in the destruction and chaos of the First World War: when hell was manifest on Earth and the slaughter of millions became the norm. Here, we are now at the beginning of the third decade of the 21st century, standing on the edge of a great paradigm shift. We are in a post-Trump, post-Truth age in the middle of the fourth industrial revolution with a post-industrial, post-human future on the horizon. The collapse of the World Eco-Systems, the point of no return is upon us all, the science is clear, but still we march blindly up the garden path for tea and biscuits with a first class view of total annihilation. The bombs, the bankers and the media distort our bodies, hearts and minds. We have been cut adrift, lost in time and space, with no connection to past present and future; atomised, digitised lost souls staring into the abyss. Every element of the capitalist system is constructed to make us feel alone and hopeless.
Now is a time for DADA, when the abstract and surreal are the new norm. DADA can conquer all contenders to the throne. Through DADA we can out fox the fox, we can unite humanity in a collective gasp of relief, followed by a defiant roar of laughter. We can realise together that in fact the opposite is true, we are not alone, we are all connected and if we join together in this absurd reality we can shape it as we choose. For the Many Not the Few! DADA IS DEAD, LONG LIVE DADA.
